How to Stay Productive When You are Tired

Throughout our week we can get exhausted by deadlines, everyday tasks and a never ending to do list. Even though these things have to get done, our bodies doesn’t always understand that. Here are some ways you can stay productive even when you are tired.

1. Listen to your body

If you are tired, your body is telling you something. Identify what is draining you and adjust your lifestyle if possible. Many times we get tired at certain times of the day/week or with certain people and we should be aware of this. It may be our work schedule or an activity that isn’t working for our lifestyle. It may be a health concern. Figure out what the real issue is and make the necessary adjustments.

2. Schedule breaks throughout the day or rest days throughout the week

Do something to take your mind off things. Our brains need time to process the information it receives and can get overloaded if we don’t take time to rest. Spend some time doing something relaxing and have some fun. It’s okay to work hard and play hard as well. Take a self-care day and treat yourself, you deserve it!

3. Listen to something inspiring, such as a podcast or your favorite music playlist

While you are working, remember why you do the things you do. Whether it is to provide for your family, help others or to make this world better, remember your why. This will give you that extra boost you need while working to help you finish the good work you have started.

4. Set the atmosphere

Create a comfortable workspace that is clean and inviting. The environment we work in makes a big difference in our productivity. Remove any clutter or trash around you to have a neat place to work. Set up a space with your favorite scriptures and pictures of the things you love, so when you look around you are surrounded by positivity.

5. Do extra work on your high energy days

Some days more than others we are full of energy and enthusiasm. On those days, do as much as you can. Knock out the most important things first and start on those up incoming projects last. Maybe you have something that isn’t due yet but you have the energy to complete it now, do it! It will balance out your low energy days and alleviate stress later.

6. Take vitamins, stay hydrated and eat healthy meals

Our bodies need a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat to give it energy. Make sure you are eating balanced meals throughout the day to give your body the fuel it needs to stay healthy. We can’t run on junk food and caffeine, it will slow us down. One symptom of dehydration is fatigue, so make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.

7. Exercise

Sometimes when we are tired we are tempted to call it a day and sleep. Sleep is good, but sometimes we actually need to get our body moving to get that boost of energy we need. Exercise helps our body systems receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs to keep us energized and functioning at our maximum capacity. Start off your day with a good stretch or 30 minute work out to strengthen your muscles and endurance.

“May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy…” Colossians 1:11
